Marei Schippmann
Marei works with traditional woodworking techniques and the application of these, in industrial small batch production. This creates sustainable, value-oriented and durable furniture. Through the targeted use of modern CNC technology in woodworking and the treatment of the wood surface by flaming the wood, sustainable outdoor furniture is created. The continuously increasing furniture consumption of society and the associated trend towards "fast furniture" leads to the loss of appreciation of furniture. Furniture is consumed, used and thrown away after a short time. This artificially induced obsolescence caused by new trends and poor production is now part of the everyday life of the disposable society. While in the past, furniture could be passed on over several generations, this is not the case today. The poor production leads to the fact that the furniture is unusable after only a short time. Designing with traditional woodworking techniques, are solutions for sustainable furniture design. The OUTBLACK_00 project focuses on the design of furniture for outdoor use. Due to weathering, salty air and humidity, wooden furniture for outdoor use is exposed to particularly high demands. Therefore, most often tropical wood or a chemical surface treatment is used to make durable outdoor furniture, for example, glazing the wood. By applying an old woodworking technique, in which the regional wood is flamed, the furniture becomes weather resistant. The wood surface carbonizes so that water or pests, mosses and fungi cannot settle on the surface. Combined with traditional wood joints and good design, durable outdoor furniture is created.
