Ekoshi - shirt with breastfeeding function
Janet Perozo
"Breastfeeding when a child wants and where the mommy is".
Unfortunately, it's not that easy, as rejection in public is a common reason to stop breastfeeding. Especially with the first child. The design-protected shirt with breastfeeding function can be used for everyday life of all women. The breastfeeding function is optional here. If you leave everything as it is, you can wear the shirt for all occasions and times of day. If you remove the newly added thread structure, the shirt becomes a nursing shirt. After the breastfeeding period, it is possible to sew it up and use the shirt as a normal shirt again. It is made of controlled and sustainable fabrics. E.g. GOTS certified organic cotton or Tencel, because of the CO2 and water consumption and the longevity of the product. The best for mother and child. Since textile production still has a big impact on our world (water consumption, water pollution, textile waste and emission) alternative options are also considered. This fabric must work well for the shirt, as breastfeeding has other demands on the product. Synthetic fabrics (e.g. polyacrylic and polyamide) can cause skin irritation. They do not allow the skin to breathe enough and do not absorb moisture sufficiently. But natural fabrics, such as cotton or sheep's wool, can also cause irritation because chemical treatment substances are used in the cultivation of the raw materials and in the processing of the textiles. Especially with black clothing, the use of chemicals is unavoidable. When combined with moisture (breast milk) and body heat, chemicals dissolve and can cause unpleasant irritation when in contact with the skin. After a long research on sustainable fabrics, I would like to use mainly algae-based fibers for my textiles. Fibers made from algae can be soft and
smooth. Especially for sensitive skin. Seaweed has an incredible wealth of vitamins, minerals and trace elements. Seaweed is also used in modern medicine as it is extremely protective of the skin and anti-inflammatory. I am very much looking forward to working with the AQUATOR -Business Accelerator to develop the aquatic bioeconomy. In parallel, we are working on logistics, packaging as well as adapting the patterns and continuing to try to produce as little waste as possible. The design also plays a major role, this must be fashionable and timeless to create a product of "slow fashion".
